Round and about

St Guilhem le Désert

Within easy reach of Lodève, there are many picturesque old villages and towns to discover - St Guilhem le Désert, Lunas, Pégairolles, Le Caylar, Lacoste and Soubès, to name but a few.

Local historic sites include:
La Couvertoirade, a XIIth century fortified village of the Knights Templar, which is now a centre for artisans.
Le Prieuré Saint-Michel de Grandmont, a XIIth century monastery of the hermit monks of the Grandmont order where ancient dolmens still stand.
Le Pont du Diable, the oldest medieval bridge in France, which spans the Hérault river near St Jean de Fos, a village famous for its pottery.

The natural scenery in this area is absolutely stunning and very varied.
Les Ruffes on the shores of the nearby Lac du Salagou contrast startlingly with the green wooded hills and the coastal plain. There's the patchwork quilt of vineyards and olive groves, and the rock formations of the nearby Causses which form a colossal backdrop for the gushing subterranean rivers and contain some of the best caves in France:
La Grotte de Clamouse, La Grotte de Labeil and La Grotte des Demoiselles.

la Grotte de Clamouse

The natural marvels underground are matched above ground by the most impressive cols: Cirque de Mourèze, Cirque du Bout du Monde and Cirque de Navacelles, said to be the best example in Europe of this glacial bowl formation.
This area offers so much to see and do whether you're in a car, on foot, bicycle or horseback, or you can just relax on the beaches half an hour away.
Water sports fans will find everything at Lac du Salagou, only 7km from la Villa Jeanne, and for fishermen the local lakes and rivers teem with fish of all kinds.
The cosmopolitan city of Montpellier is just a 30 minute drive away and is a glorious mix of very old and very new architecture.

In short, this is the ideal location for your holiday.
